You are not alone! Many of our guests arrive with a bit of "ocean stage fright." However, we find that once they’re out there, their entire perspective shifts. 

At Cape Coast Expeditions, safety isn't just a priority—it’s our rule. Alan only heads out when the conditions are perfect and the weather is ideal. The journey to the island is a quick 25-minute ride, and once we arrive, the water is calm, clear, and incredibly peaceful. It’s a gentle introduction to the beauty of the coast that has turned many into ocean lovers.

The best remedy to prevent that is to take a seasick tablet at night before you go to bed, and another one as soon as you wake up - and you're good to go! Medezine is a good one, but you can choose one that suits your needs.

We also try go out on calm days, and where we anchor is very calm :)

We understand that plans can change — life happens! That’s why we offer a 48-hour cancellation policy. Cancel at least 48 hours before your trip for a full refund.

• Direct bookings (EFT): 100% of your payment will be refunded.
• Bookings via our booking platform: You’ll receive a full refund minus the platform’s 3.5% booking fee.
   

Cancellations made less than 24 hours in advance are non-refundable, so please try to let us know in time.

Yes, a R50 conservation fee is added to every booking. Cape Coast Expeditions collects this on behalf of the Dassen Island Nature Reserve; 100% of this fee goes directly toward the protection and maintenance of the island’s unique ecosystem.

Because Dassen Island is a strictly protected Nature Reserve and Marine Protected Area, we do not go ashore. This ensures the wildlife remains undisturbed in its natural habitat. 

However, we anchor very close to the shore in calm water, where you’ll have an incredible front-row seat to the penguins, seals, and birdlife. The sightings from the boat are spectacular and offer a perspective few people ever get to see!

Our expedition vessel does not have an onboard bathroom, so we highly recommend a "land break" before we depart. It’s best to keep your liquid intake light just before we head out.

If there is an urgent need, don't worry—we have a discreet system in place. Alan will gather the group at the front for a story while providing you with a privacy screen at the back of the boat. Your comfort and dignity are always our priority!

Please arrive 20 minutes before your trip starts. Example; for 08:00 tours, please arrive 07:40. We will send you a welcome document via Whatsapp with everything you need to know before your trip. 

Minimum age for this trip is 7 years old, all passengers need to be able to board and disembark the vessel unassisted and have a comfortable level of manoeuvrability. Due to the nature of our tours, we regretfully cannot accept customers with walking/back problems or any other disability that may be aggravated by the motions of the vessel.

We recommend bringing a filled water bottle, comfortable flat sole shoes, weather-appropriate clothing, suncream, binoculars, motion sickness tablets and a camera. 

If our Captain decides the conditions are unsafe for a tour we will do our best to reschedule you for another slot where the conditions are more favourable. If we cannot reschedule because of weather, we will offer a full refund.
